I just found out that my grandma has the first stages of parkinsons disease and alzheimers. She is 82 years old. Im her favorite grandson and she was somewhat like a mom to me. I call her everyday since she lives in Bolivia. I just can't cope with the idea that she might forget me or that she might die because of this.I really want to go see her but i can't until next summer in 2013. Will she remember me when i go? will she be able to talk? I keep asking everyone if theres a cure knowing that theres not. I really feel depressed and i don't want to do anything. How can i cope with knowing this?

Ive been smoking out of a socket piece as a bowl for water bong a while, maybe 20-30 times over the past year. Hello i have smoked marijuana so has my friend. He continues to do this once about every weekend or every other weekend. Now he claims he is bad at math now because of it. He says that it killed his brain cells or not necessarily killed them but impaired them so he is forgetting stuff they have done before in math. He is in an advanced math class I do say he is very intelligent and gets really good grades without even trying. I hate that about him cause the rest of us have to try…lol. Anyhow he basically is saying it made him forget how to do certain math stuff I asked my other friend the same thing he said he feels bad in math too.What I also find weirder is that they say its only in math every other subject there fine. Personally I have had no effect I still do the same in math. I do know it effects the hipocampus of the brain, short term memory. It was my understanding that it only effects the short term memory when you are high. So technically say I am high and I go into math class and we get taught about the geometric mean and trig stuff. Then chances are depending on how high I was I may have difficulty, may i repeat, difficulty remembering. I will have to think about it a little bit. Now if I was not high and I listened to the lecture I would remember more its not impairing your memory when ur not high or your not losing old memory so say when i was a kid i rode mybike with my friends its not like all of a sudden one day im going to forget that because of marijuana. Another weird thing is some studies suggest it can prevent symptoms of alzheimers. Tell me where a study is that talks of this, memory, learning, a link to a site please and thank you.

I was diagnosed with Juvenile huntingtons last year (for those who dont know what that is, its a disease that mixes the symptoms of parkinsons, M.S and alzheimers all in one) I dont show many signs yet, my hand and foot just shakes sometimes. I was assaulted 2 years ago and have a daughter because of it. I have been talking to this boy since my daughter was born. It was crazy wonderful love at frist until he started treating me like ****. we have an open relationship now (but only on his side) he tells me all about his sex life with other girls. he makes me feel so worthless. like i dont deserve him let alone anyone else. he tells me no one will except me with all my bagage and i believe him. Now with my diagnoses im afraid ill never be able to find that person who will except me and my daughter. I hold onto him because i hope someday he'll treat me right, and he's so good with my daughter. i know what to do but dont know how to do it. im afraid of being completly alone the rest of my life if i leave him. im so sad, please help me.

My mother lives with us now bc it's clear her alzheimers has progressed & she can no longer live on her own. She is now at he stage of believing everyone is stealing from her. She accuses our son the most bc she doesn't remember him anymore. Any suggestions on how to handle it when she accuses family members & is adamant about it. I know I can never convince her that her grandson has no interest in taking her notepad or her Mickey Mouse coffee mug but it makes me sad& I feel theneed to always defend him. Even though I know it's pointless.

I have had durable POA medical and financial over my Aunt filed at the county records building since 1991.Four years ago my aunt became unable to take care of herself due to early dimetia and alzheimers. I have to take over and sell her house pay her bils and placed her in a nursing home.A so called friend somehow got my aunt to sign a general POA on my aunt moved her from the nursing home and with the aide of my aunts financial adviser they moved her from the nursing home to another and never notified me.They managed to get her to sign paperwork and drained herup untill her death.I had tried all types of state agencies to help me.Elderly abuse,legal aide,adult protective services.They managed to change investment accounts and when she died took all the money.Never being notified by certified mail do I have any legal recoarse? This has been a two year nightmare for me being on a fixed income.I found a will but it had been scribbled on and things marked out but nothing signed or initialed or any notarized changes.

My dad had a brain hemorrhage last year – just under exactly 1 year. It was very severe and the doctors thought from the scans that he wouldn't survive. However he survived and recovered almost miraculously but there are still some symptoms caused by it. Anyway, he went to his doctors today after having some more tests and he told my dad that he will get dementia in the future. I wasn't there but my dad said he told him like this. He won't say much more – ironically he said he forgot but I don't know if that's true – he just changed the subject.
Anyway is it true that a brain hemorrhage can cause demenita? I'm only 16 and thinking my dad is going to get dementia is killing me! Does dementia always lead to Alzheimers, by the way? Can it be cured or how long will it be before the symptoms develop? Sorry but I really need to know. My dad is 47 and was/is a heavy drinker but he is cutting down now after many years. I don't know if this makes a difference, I just know alcohol affects your brain cells or whatever.

I've been going out with my partner forover 3 years. We work together, live together and went traveling together for 9 months. I love him so much. Last week he told me his dad has alzheimers and being the only boy in a Muslim family it is his responsibility so he is giving up his job and moving home so we need to break up. He says he can't give me a house and children as he will spend his life caring for his dad. I offered to help but he said no he's going alone. I really love him what should I do?

Surely he can get support from his sisters also or somebody else in his family who has a partner, they would surely understand the prospect of suddenly just cutting off a relationship to care for his dad?

It sounds like the guys is panicking- he does have a lot of stress on top of him, and a lot of responsibility all of a sudden, and people in such situations have a tendency to cut others off in the process.

if you really love him you are going to have to think about the above options, about explaining to other members of his family that you are not being selfish but he's decided to submit his life to being a carer and being a bit over the top, and cutting you off completely in this decision. Explain that you love him and want to help and support, maybe then suggest you are going to need a little bit of their help too.

You may have to put your foot down and consider moving with him.

It's not worth losing your relationship over, and as much he is trying to be the macho man and do the right thing,
You are both going regret losing any chance of future between the two of you.

Discuss with his family a home carer maybe?
They should understand- afterall, it is one family unit speaking to another..
